Outage Power Management

Prior to their scheduled summer outage, the Timken Company contacted 3-D Service's Generator Division for pricing to rent light towers and generators.  During the conversation, outage details were discussed revealing the large amount of equipment that would be needed overall. Generator Division manager, Brian Zolla, offered that 3-D Service could spearhead the equipment procurement and logistics for the entire project.  Timken was delighted to find that 3-D Service was capable of handling such a project management roll.  Over approximately an 8 week period the list grew from a few machines to a total of 76 machines, including light towers and portable gasoline generators brought in from re-rent vendors in addition to 3-D Service’s own rental fleet.

As part of the project, all re-rent equipment was first shipped to 3-D Service where each unit was inspected, tested, repaired, cataloged, fueled, and tagged for deployment.  3-D Service personnel were charged with loading and freighting the equipment to a specified staging area prior to the outage with 3-D personnel placed directly on the Timken property to handle the staging area organization.  This was accomplished using semi-tractor and trailer flatbeds with mobilized lifting equipment at both 3-D and Timken.  An efficient production-line process was used to keep the delivery on-time and fluid.

Once the equipment was deployed 3-D Service personnel provided around-the-clock fueling service providing seamless service solution for Timken throughout the life of the project.  This reduced subcontractor movements during the outage, the potential for downtime, and theft of equipment.

After the outage was complete 3-D Service personnel were able to recover all machines without incident.  The process was reversed with all machines freighted back to 3-D Service.  Timken's spokesman stated he was “very happy with services provided by 3-D Service and intended to use this service again in the future.”
